Geographical Extension: west and northwestern Madagascar, as well as western central Madagascar.
Habitat: dry and hot habitats, diurnal
Size: up to 35 cm
Life Expectancy: over 10 years
Reproduction: several clutches per year with 2-5 eggs each. Incubation period at 29-31°C about 61-71 days.
Temperature: air temperature between 25-28°C, local heat spots up to 40°C. Night setback to 18-23°C.
Humidity: 60-70%
Lighting: Daylight fluorescent tubes, if necessary UV tubes (see "Sorry Link missing"). For sufficient UV radiation we recommend "Sorry Link missing" or "Sorry Link missing". "Sorry Link missing" for the creation of local heat spots. Species needs a strong illumination. If necessary the use of HQI lamps or T5 fluorescent tubes is recommended.

Comment: Small groups can be tended well together (e.g. 1 male with 2-4 females). O. cuvieri can be easily distinguished from O. cyclurus by its separating band in the caudal vertebrae.
