Cites status: Protected in Australia. No international protection. Only offspring are available.
Geographical Extension: Central Australia
Habitat: bush and tree-covered dry areas, diurnal
Size: up to 60 cm
Life Expectancy: over 9 years
Reproduction: multiple clutches per year, up to about 40 soft-shelled eggs. Incubation period at 30°C about 60-70 days.
Temperature: ground temperature between 26-28°C, local heat spots up to 40°C. Night setback to 20-23°C.
Humidity: 50-60%
Lighting: Daylight fluorescent tubes, if necessary UV tubes (see "Sorry Link missing"). For sufficient UV radiation we recommend "Sorry Link missing" or "Sorry Link missing". "Sorry Link missing" for the creation of local heat spots. Species needs a strong illumination. If necessary the use of HQI lamps or T5 fluorescent tubes is recommended.
Substrate: loamy soil with rock structures, Lucky Reptile Sand Bedding "Sorry Link missing"
Cage Furniture: hideouts, stones, roots, climbing facilities, a flat water bowl. Cage substrate should always be slightly wet in one spot.
Terrarium Size (for long term care): Minimum requirement: 5x4x3 (LxWxH) of the snout-vent length for one pair. A terrarium of at least 180x50x60 (LxWxH) is recommended for 1-3 animals.
food: Insects (e.g. large crickets, grasshoppers, cockroaches, super mealworms, wax moths, etc.) and freshly born mice also products from the "Sorry Link missing" and "Sorry Link missing". Vegetarian food like leaves (e.g. dandelion, ribwort, clover, lucerne, cress, various germ buds and sprouts etc.) but also carrots, paprika, zucchini or tomatoes (hackled and rasped). Regular additions of "Sorry Link missing" and "Sorry Link missing" are necessary.
Comment: They can be tended well in smaller groups (e.g. one male and 2-4 females). Males are irreconcilable with each other!
