Geographical Extension: large parts of south and east Africa. From the east coast to Nigeria in on the west coast. Also on Tanzania and reportedly in Uganda
Habitat: varied; forests, bush- and grasssavannahs, preferably moist biotopes
Size: females up to 40cm, males smaller
Life Expectancy: ca. 10 years
Reproduction: up to 50 eggs. Incubation period at 28°C about 250-280 days.
Temperature: at day 25-32°C, locally 35-40°C and at night 18-22°C
Humidity: ca. 50% at night up to 80%
Lighting: Daylight fluorescent tubes, if necessary UV tubes (see "Sorry Link missing"). For sufficient UV radiation we recommend "Sorry Link missing" or "Sorry Link missing". "Sorry Link missing" for the creation of local heat spots.
Substrate: loose, absorptive substrate (see "Sorry Link missing").
Cage Furniture: climbing facilities, blinds for back and rear panels, planting is possible (Ficus benjamina, Scindapsus sp., Epipremnium sp., Hoya sp., etc.). Many hiding places. Good air circulation is required! A dripper is recommended (see "Sorry Link missing")
Terrarium Size (for long term care): Minimum requirement for one animal is a ratio of 4x2.5x4 (LBH) of snout-vent-length. A size of 80x60x120cm is recomended.

Comment: Somewhat agressive species. Single keeping is required.
